¡A la Vida Bona!

Intro

¡Vida, vida, la vida bona – Vida, vámonos a chacona! (Life, life, the good life! – Life, let’s go to chacona!) says one of the commonest refrains for a popular sung dance of the Spanish ‘Golden Age’, the lascivious chacona. This live recording studies the relationship between elite and popular culture in the Crown of Spain in the sixteenth century through the music of Diego Ortiz, Tomás Luis de Victoria and Juan Arañés, performed on period instruments and according to contemporary practices.
